Glorious tells the true story of the eccentric American, Florence Foster Jenkins. During the 1930s and ‘40s , the “socialite soprano”, made a career out of concerts, although the somewhat delusional singer couldn't hit a single note.
Florence Foster Jenkins became known as 'the first lady of the sliding scale' - she warbled and screeched her way through concerts to an audience who mostly fell about with laughter. But this delusional and joyously happy woman paid little attention to her critics, instead Florence was surrounded by a circle of devoted friends who were almost as eccentric as she was.
"People may say that I cannot sing, But no one can say that I didn't sing!" Florence Foster Jenkins
From Murder on the High Cs to her most famous recording of Mozart's Queen of the Night aria, this “dire diva of din” sold out many months in advance performing private concerts at the Ritz Carlton in New York to the Carnegie Hall.
