The brilliant Once is to close in the west end in March, following Ronan Keating’s departure from the role. I have to admit, I was a little shocked when I read the announcement, as when I visited little more than a month ago the house was full of a happy audience. I found Once to be an uplifting and haunting love story that stayed with me for days after I left the theatre and indeed London. It does sadden me that I won’t be able to see the show again, most likely, and so I would like to present my top five (of many) reasons to see Once at the Phoenix Theatre before 21st March 2015.

Firstly Doctor Who star Arthur Darvill joins the West End production of Once tonight (Monday 17th March 2014) at the Phoenix Theatre, following a successful stint on Broadway. His previous London theatre credits include Our Boys (Duchess), Soft Cops (RSC), Doctor Faustus (Globe) and Swimming with Sharks (Vaudeville Theatre). Arthur is also known for his roles in Broadchurch and The White Queen.

Arthur Darvill To Join Cast of West End Production of Once

On 17 March 2014, Arthur Darvill, who has previously played the role in the Broadway production, will join the West End cast of Once to play the leading role of Guy. The eight-time Tony award-winning musical last month released over 400,000 new tickets for sale, taking bookings at the Phoenix Theatre to 4 July 2015.  Directed by John Tiffany, Once opened at the Phoenix Theatre in April last year where it has been acclaimed by audiences and critics alike.
