Jonathan Kent's five-star production of Gypsy starring Imelda Staunton as Rose will have its final performance on 28 November 2015 as previously announced.   Having smashed the all time box office record at the Savoy Theatre and subsequently recouped, Kent’s production originally opened at the Chichester Festival Theatre in October last year.  Following a second set of five-star reviews, producers Michael Harrison and David Ian announced an extension to the West End run in April.

It has been announced that the Academy award-winning Nicole Kidman is returning to the London stage in the UK premiere of Photograph 51 by Anna Ziegler. The play will be directed by Michael Grandage, reuniting him with Kidman who he recently directed in the forthcoming feature film Genius.

Jonathan Kent’s critically acclaimed production of Gypsy starring Imelda Staunton as the indomitable Rose today announces an extension to the run at the Savoy Theatre with booking now to 28 November 2015. Kent’s production originally opened at the Chichester Festival Theatre in October last year with the West End transfer opening last week when the production received a second set of five star reviews.

Last week we said goodbye to a West End favourite- Once. After landing at the Phoenix Theatre in spring 2013, it has been charming the hearts of anyone who went to see this award winning musical. Ronan Keating took over the role of ‘Guy’ in its final months, an Irish busker who falls for a beautiful Czech girl, in a story of love and missed opportunity told through the infectious songs they write.

Next week (18th March) the West End production of Jersey Boys at the Piccadilly Theatre will welcome Gary Watson to the cast. The actor, who previously played Marius in Les Miserables and Zach in A Chorus Line, replaces Matt Nalton as Nick Massi. Watson joins a stellar cast at the Piccadilly Theatre including Michael Watson as Frankie Valli, Edd Post as Bob Gaudio and Jon Boydon as Tommy DeVito, all of whom have been in the show for many years.

Further casting has been announced for the much anticipated West End transfer Gypsy, opening at the Savoy Theatre in April (with previews beginning at the end of this month). Joining Imelda Staunton, who stars as the indomitable Momma Rose in Jonathan Kent’s production of Gypsy, are Lara Pulver and Gemma Sutton who reprise the roles of Louise and June respectively in the five star Chichester Festival Theatre production, while Peter Davison joins the cast to play Herbie. 

When I was in years five and six at primary school, in the wake of my passion for Hairspray, another musical obsession came to power: Into The Woods. I loved nothing more than Sondheim’s complicated rhythms and melodies, and the story that his music and James Lapine’s book told; I would watch the official recording of the Original Broadway production over and over again until I knew the songs word for word.
