Don't miss Gypsy, one of the greatest ever Broadway musicals, as it transfers to the West End following its sell-out, rapturously acclaimed five-star run at Chichester Festival Theatre.

Imelda Staunton delivers a "knock-out performance" (The Independent) as Momma Rose in Jonathan Kent's "dazzling revival" (Mail on Sunday), alongside Lara Pulver, who reprises her “stunning” (The Independent) role as Louise. They’ll be joined by Peter Davison as Herb, in this gloriously entertaining musical fable that features "showstopping" (Mail on Sunday) choreography from Stephen Mear.

Based on the true life memoirs of legendary burlesque entertainer, Gypsy Rose Lee, it tells the tale of Momma Rose and her two daughters, Baby June and Louise, trekking across America in their family vaudeville act. But times are changing, audiences are expecting more, and the two girls have their own ambitions in mind. The rise of burlesque is upon them, and nothing will ever be the same again for Momma Rose.

With lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, book by Arthur Laurents and music by Jule Styne, this moving and "scintillating" (The Times) production of Gypsy is the first to be seen in London for 40 years.

Special notes

Imelda Staunton is contracted to be in all shows including midweek matinees for all dates up to 28th November, barring illness. Ms Staunton is not expected to take any holidays for the remainder of her run. Please note the Grand Circle is steep in this theatre and not suitable for anyone with vertigo.

PLEASE NOTE: Tuesday 6 October and both shows Wednesday & October will be filmed performances. Cameras will be present in both the Stalls and Dress Circle areas

24 October Matinee will be a signed performance. There will be a sign interpreter standing on the side of the stage

A Goodbye To Once And A Hello to Gypsy This Week On The Buzz from the Bardette

There’s a mix of hellos and goodbyes this week in the West End, so grab your tissues but also your excited klaxon.

Last week we said goodbye to a West End favourite- Once. After landing at the Phoenix Theatre in spring 2013, it has been charming the hearts of anyone who went to see this award winning musical. Ronan Keating took over the role of ‘Guy’ in its final months, an Irish busker who falls for a beautiful Czech girl, in a story of love and missed opportunity told through the infectious songs they write.

From Stage to Screen: Into The Woods

When I was in years five and six at primary school, in the wake of my passion for Hairspray, another musical obsession came to power: Into The Woods. I loved nothing more than Sondheim’s complicated rhythms and melodies, and the story that his music and James Lapine’s book told; I would watch the official recording of the Original Broadway production over and over again until I knew the songs word for word.
